Ardbeg
Description
Officially founded in 1815 by John MacDougall, Ardbeg Distillery is located on the south coast of the island of Islay, Scotland. Renowned for its intensely peated single malts, it benefits from a unique maritime setting that shapes the character of its whiskies. After several periods of closure during the 20th century, the distillery was revived in 1997 under Glenmorangie (now part of LVMH), quickly regaining its cult status among peat lovers. Ardbeg is known for producing some of the most heavily peated whiskies on Islay, while maintaining a remarkable balance between smoky power, coastal salinity, citrus notes and malty sweetness. Its spirit is rooted in a strong respect for traditional methods, a bold island identity, and a global community of enthusiasts — the Ardbeg Committee, founded in 2000 to support and celebrate the distillery’s iconic expressions.
